About The Position

This is a skilled position responsible for resource management on the Withlacoochee State Forest. The incumbent will operate heavy equipment in the construction, improvement, and maintenance of forest roads, culverts, and recreation features such as campground sites and trails. The role includes performing activities necessary to maintain road shoulders and remove roadside vegetation. The position also involves transporting heavy equipment and materials throughout Florida and responding to inquiries from forest visitors regarding various programs and conditions in the state forest.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Possession of a valid driver license.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six months of appointment.
• Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for construction, improvement, and maintenance of forest roads and recreation features.
• Perform site preparation and tree planting as part of forest management practices.
• Maintain road shoulders and remove roadside vegetation.
• Transport heavy equipment and materials to various destinations.
• Conduct routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on forestry equipment.
• Respond to visitor inquiries and provide information about the state forest.
• Assist in the installation and maintenance of visitor information signs and kiosks.
