As a Park Ranger 1 (Commissioned) at the Walker River State Recreation Area, you will play a vital role in the operations, law enforcement, resource management, interpretation, and maintenance activities at the park. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow in the field of park management. You will be working under the supervision of the Park Supervisor, assisting in the management of multiple units within the park, including the historic Flying M Ranch, 9 Mile Ranch, and The Elbow. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, from supervising seasonal staff to managing diverse natural and historical resources. In this role, you will engage in both fieldwork and administrative duties, which will require you to work varied hours and shifts, often in challenging outdoor conditions. As a commissioned Park Ranger, you will also serve as a State Park peace officer, which involves handling citations and responding to emergency situations. Your hands-on work will include grounds maintenance, custodial duties, fee collection, interpretive programs, and minor facility repairs. You will be expected to provide expertise in land management, recreation, and administration to ensure the smooth operation of the park, making crucial decisions regarding resources, training, and facilities. Residency at the park is required, and the position offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area while contributing to the preservation and enjoyment of Nevada's state parks. After one year in this position, there is potential for advancement to Park Ranger II, allowing for further career development within the State Parks Division.
