About The Position

The New York State Park Police are seeking dedicated individuals to join as Park Police Officer Trainees. This role involves law enforcement duties in some of the most beautiful natural and historic areas of New York State. The position requires candidates to undergo a six-month residential training at the police academy, followed by field training in assigned zones across the state. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to protect the state's treasures while enjoying a rewarding career in law enforcement.

Requirements

• Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of hire.
• Must not have passed the 35th birthday by October 25, 2025, unless military duty time is applicable.
• Minimum of 60 college credit hours completed by June 30, 2025; 30 hours may be waived for honorably discharged veterans with two years of active military duty.
• Must be a United States citizen and a resident of New York State at the time of appointment and maintain residency throughout employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for operating a vehicle in New York State.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in law enforcement or military service is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete a six-month residential training at the police academy.
• Undergo field training in assigned Park Police zones for six months after academy graduation.
• Enforce laws and regulations in state parks and historic sites.
• Provide assistance and protection to visitors in state parks.
• Participate in community outreach and education regarding park safety.
