About The Position

The New York State Park Police are seeking dedicated individuals to join as Park Police Officer Trainees. This role involves law enforcement duties aimed at protecting the state's natural and historic treasures while ensuring public safety in some of the most beautiful locations in New York. The recruitment for the 2025 Park Police Academy is currently open, with applications accepted until February 28, 2025.

Requirements

• Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of hire and cannot have passed the 35th birthday by October 25, 2025.
• Minimum of 60 college credit hours completed by June 30, 2025; 30 hours may be waived for honorably discharged veterans with at least two years of active military duty.
• Must be a United States citizen and a resident of New York State at the time of appointment and maintain residency throughout employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license for operating a vehicle in New York State.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in law enforcement or military service is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete a six-month residential police academy training in Rensselaerville, NY.
• Undergo field training in a designated Park Police zone for six months after academy graduation.
• Enforce laws and regulations in state parks and historic sites.
• Provide assistance and protection to visitors in state parks.
• Participate in community outreach and educational programs.
