About The Position

This classification assists in manual, semi-skilled level work involving maintenance/repair of County parks, beaches, facilities and equipment, including minor construction of park facilities, passive recreation amenities, play areas and related equipment, in accordance with area of assignment. Employees in this class perform a variety of skilled manual labor tasks requiring some job acquired skills in specialized fields. Work involves considerable public contact in providing information and assistance to patrons. Note: Work schedules may involve weekends, holidays and rotating shifts all of which entail independent responsibility in handling emergency situations and closing parks.

Requirements

  • High school graduate/equivalent.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
  • Grounds maintenance experience desired.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Parks Maintenance Tech Career I Ladder training and certifications within 12 months of hire is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine semi-skilled work in one or more trades associated with maintenance and repair of parks and beach facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Assist higher level maintenance workers or contracted professionals in accomplishing more advanced or skilled projects.
  • Organize and prepare parts and tools for each day's work; load and unload trucks as needed; complete all daily functions.
  • Maintain landscapes, trees, grounds, trails, irrigation systems for landscaped areas and active restoration projects.
  • Operate maintenance and other related equipment in performing landscape and grounds maintenance tasks, such as mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, pruning, blowing, etc.
  • Clean, paint, remove rubbish and other refuse from grounds and buildings, repair, and maintain various parks facilities and properties, and assist with invasive plant control.
  • Assist in routine inspection of vehicles and equipment and report deficiencies to supervisor or designated personnel.
  • Perform record keeping and reporting duties, i.e., service records, basic logs, reports, etc. (some of which may be computerized).
  • Load and unload heavy materials from trucks, vans, or other areas; move or aid in moving heavy boxes, equipment and larger or bulky objects.
  • Interact effectively with the public, provide information, and enforce rules and regulations in a pleasant and tactful manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings provided by department.
  • Perform other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
