About The Position

Under supervision, performs work in maintaining a variety of general landscaping areas, artificial turf for athletic fields, and performs maintenance for various landscaping equipment. MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or is a logical assignment to the position. Perform manual labor and use various types of hand and small power tools such as saws, axes, drills, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes and hoes. Perform minor adjustments and repairs to such equipment. Mow, edge and trim lawns using hand or small horsepower mowers, edger’s and sweepers; water and weed lawns, shrubs and flower beds; rake and clear litter; clear brush and gather leaves; saw. Will learn the maintenance of artificial turf for athletic fields, how to use turf maintenance equipment. May be asked to work outside of normal business hours during athletic tournaments held on fields. Will learn the differences on how to landscape on a three-level skill for various park sites Perform tree and shrub trimming periodically. Use clippers as needed to complete the lawn care work to keep all landscaping areas in a high-quality condition. Sweep and clean facility perimeters, bathrooms and concessions stands. Clean public surface areas and remove graffiti. Maintenance of ball field and playground equipment and ground maintenance. As directed, may mix and use weed killing solutions, fertilizers, and/or other related chemical mixtures. May be required to drive non-CDL pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities. Perform minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on vehicles and/or trailers. Perform periodic lawn treatment with applicators and equipment, including weeding, fertilizing and aerating. Will learn and assist in the lawn sprinkler system operation and maintenance. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and six (6) month’s work experience in cleaning and grounds-keeping or similarly related work experience that allows for the skills and knowledge to perform the job.
  • Operating small hand tools
  • Performing a variety of routine ground-keeping functions
  • Completing assigned work in a timely and efficient manner
  • Safely operating tools and equipment
  • Safely handling fertilizers and chemicals.
  • Maintenance of equipment.
  • Basic math
  • Safe work practices
  • Basic cleaning and grounds-keeping techniques.
  • Handling and storage of pesticides and herbicides.
  • Read and write
  • Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Operate and care for hand tools and equipment
  • Observe safety requirements and safe work practices
  • Perform work involving regular physical activity
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships
  • Arrive to work in a timely manner
  • Attend required training
  • Work varying shifts.
  • Must have a current and valid Washington State driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of turf machines and artificial turf maintenance.
