POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports directly to the Park Manager and is expected to perform a variety of semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, conservation, and repair of County park facilities, trails, and natural areas.

Requirements

  • This position requires a valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws, regulations, and policies that pertain to the job, including Wisconsin Statutes and administrative codes.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service practices and the ability to apply them in a public sector environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally, respectfully, and tactfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating maintenance equipment such as riding lawnmowers, chainsaws, large trucks, construction equipment or farm equipment, and UTVs preferred.
  • Previous landscape, construction, or maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grounds maintenance activities including, but not limited to, mowing, trail maintenance, use area maintenance, herbicide application, hazard tree and brush removal and other related tasks.
  • Assist in the construction, maintenance and repair of park buildings and park structures.
  • Identify equipment needs for each assigned project, maintain work logs and records, and maintenance and repair logs.
  • Safely operate and maintain park vehicles/equipment (trucks/trailers, tractors and other heavy equipment, ATV/UTV, boats, riding mowers, gas/electric power tools, stationary shop tools and other equipment, etc.).
  • Enforce all park rules, County policies, regulations and the County Park Ordinance, Chapter 30. Patrol park property to ensure compliance, prevent accidents, and reduce vandalism.
  • Conduct minor plumbing repairs such as clearing clogs, replacing shower or faucet heads, adjusting plumbing valves and replacing washers.
  • Conduct minor electrical repairs such as resetting GFCI outlets, replacing light bulbs, replacing faceplates, testing outlets or fixtures.
  • Participate in county-required safety training.
  • Cleaning of restroom and shower facilities. Clean out fire-rings and grills.
  • Provide information to park visitors.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and pick up litter.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
