About The Position

Working with Supervisor to open and close the Conservatory or Fejervary Learning Center. Host will engage families and groups at the facility by giving tours of the different components within the Learning Center. As a representative of the City of Davenport and as an educator for youth and the community, staff must have a positive, outgoing attitude and present themselves with high standards. Maintain Conservatory or Fejervary Learning Center (ex: pulling weeds, watering, general pick-up of trash, fallen limbs, and other general maintenance as assigned) to ensure site safety for children. Track visitors interactions and keep daily records. Responsible for inspection of park grounds and opening/closing procedures. Assist with public events (planning activities, set-up, public interactions, and tear-down). Oversee groups, including the reading of children stories, nature programming, and greeting of visitors. Supervise YouthCorp volunteers and delegate assigned projects from Community Outreach Supervisor. Attend staff training.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must pass a background check as prescribed by the City of Davenport
  • Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various learning center activities and event needs
  • Ability to teach and conduct activities with children 3 years of age and up
  • Able to take direction
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to publicly speak on nature initiatives happening at the learning center
  • Ability to work with and give direction to volunteers
