About The Position

Love working outdoors and making a visible impact in your community? As a Seasonal Park Gardener, you’ll play a hands-on role in keeping Champaign’s parks vibrant and welcoming. This position supports the installation, care, and upkeep of flower beds and landscaped areas throughout the growing season. It’s a great opportunity to build practical horticulture skills while working as part of a dedicated team in a dynamic outdoor environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License with clean driving record
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to operate and maintain vehicles, power equipment, and hand tools used in horticulture work.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, standing, walking, lifting, and carrying materials.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 70 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation, using team lifting or mechanical assistance when required.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain, allergens).

Nice To Haves

• Education, experience and/or interest in horticulture or landscaping is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Assist with planting annuals, perennials, and other landscape materials
• Maintain flower beds and landscaped areas through weeding, watering, mulching, and trimming
• Operate Park District vehicles, power equipment, and hand tools safely and effectively
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles
• Complete basic written job records and communicate progress or issues to supervisors
• Perform physically demanding outdoor work, including lifting up to 70 lbs. with assistance as needed
• Interact with coworkers and the public in a positive, professional manner
• Follow all safety policies and Park District procedures
• Other duties as assigned
