About The Position

As a Park Campground Host volunteer, you are donating your time to serve as a “live-in” volunteer at Bunker Hills/Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campground during the period of late April through mid-October. The primary responsibility is to provide excellent guest services by assisting campers in answering questions and explaining rules that apply to them in a professional and helpful manner. Hosts should be familiar with the campground rules and the reasoning behind them. It is expected that campground hosts will maintain positive, collaborative, and professional interactions with all Parks Department team members, in addition to the public. This position is a very important part of our customer service team. Campground hosts are provided with a free site in return for services provided. Campground hosts’ camping units and equipment may remain on-site during the full time of the host agreement. Hosts will be provided with annual vehicle entry permits for their vehicles.

Requirements

  • Must own or have access to a camper.
  • Be available to serve for the entire camping season.
  • Must be available for evening, weekend, and holiday shift work.
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Hosts should become familiar with local points of interest and the location where local services can be obtained, i.e., ATMs, groceries, supplies, and attractions.
  • Light cleanup of campground.
  • Keeping restroom building neat and stocked between visits of regular cleaning crews.
  • Assist in directing visitors to campsites and explaining camping fees.
  • Assist with camping activities.
  • Assist check-ins at the office.
  • After-hours camping check-in and firewood sales.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation/notifications during severe weather.
  • Help with setting up campground programs/events as needed.
  • Hosts will monitor campground loops and perform morning and evening rounds to ensure all campers are registered.
  • Hosts will work with visitor center attendants and park services to assist with campground site tag deliveries/removals.
  • Campground hosts are on-call to assist campers when the campground visitor center is closed, or attendants are unavailable.
  • Campground hosts should attempt to greet new campers, introduce themselves, and explain what they do.
  • Campground host's primary hours are when the visitor centers are closed and unable to assist guests
