The Parent Mentor Coordinator will be responsible for planning, implementing and coordinating parent involvement/engagement component of the Community Schools Program and report to the Resource Coordinator. This position will be the link to parents and families in the school and community and will ensure that parents and families participate and receive the support they need to ensure their child’s success. The principles of family support will be used as a guide to develop and implement parent program activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Must be committed to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization’s mission
  • Must function well in group and team settings
  • Must possess interpersonal skills that excel in cultural sensitivity and respect for differences
  • Computer skills – word processing, internet research, spreadsheets, creating outreach materials
  • Travel within the community will be required
  • Submit to and clear a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work with existing parent leadership to create a plan for parent involvement that includes the following components: Education, Support, and Involvement/Engagement
  • Maintains communication with parents regarding program and school activities through various methods including Phone Contact, Letters, Monthly Newsletter, and Parent meetings
  • Supports resource coordinator in developing at least three hours of parent program per week
  • Recruit parents through flyers, phone calls, in-person solicitation and home visits
  • Maintains all parent program records
  • Works with the Resource Coordinator, Parents, Teachers and Admin. School Staff to identify parent needs and plan parent activities
  • Provides resources and referrals to parents as needed
  • Identifies Volunteer opportunities in the school and Afterschool program for parents who are interested
  • Builds relationships with students and families in the program
  • Oversees the volunteer training program
  • Attends Parent Program and School meetings as needed
