About The Position

The Parent Engagement Peer works directly with parents involved in the child welfare system to foster healthy family relationships, strengthen parent–child bonds, and increase meaningful participation in case planning and services. This role ensures that parents remain at the center of the decision-making process and that their needs are acknowledged and addressed. Serving as both a mentor and advocate, the Parent Engagement Peer provides guidance, encouragement, and support to help parents navigate their journey toward reunification and family stability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent are required
  • Lived child welfare experience
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional documents, case records, and policies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to effectively present information, facilitate meetings, and advocate for parents in a clear and respectful manner.
  • Must have the ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to manage and interpret program data, track service delivery, and maintain accurate records.
  • Must possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex family situations, identify barriers to reunification, and develop appropriate strategies for support.
  • Proof of education is required
  • Valid driver’s license required, with proof of insurance
  • Driver’s license check is a requirement
  • Criminal background screening (fingerprinting) (Local Law Enforcement and FBI/FDLE)
  • Drug Screening is a requirement

  • Recovery Peer Specialist Certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach to engage parents involved in the child welfare system, using lived experience to provide orientation, guidance, and encouragement as they navigate the process.
  • Build trusting relationships with parents to encourage strong family bonds, enhance parent–child relationships, and increase participation in case planning and services.
  • Mentor and advocate for parents, sharing practical insights and lived experience to help them overcome challenges such as substance misuse, mental health concerns, domestic violence, housing instability, and other systemic barriers.
  • Promote parent well-being, independence, and self-advocacy while supporting the successful completion of case plans and reunification goals.
  • Actively participate various support team meetings to collaborate with foster parent liaison, support co-parenting efforts, and integrate Quality Parenting Initiative (QPI) principles.
  • Collaborate with parents, foster parents, and case managers to create and implement transition home plans for children returning to their families.
  • Provide support to parents or relatives, during applicable court hearings, as needed.
  • Partner with appropriate teams’ post-reunification to ensure families’ expressed needs are met after court involvement ends.
  • Plan and facilitate individual or group sessions with parents using evidence-based curricula, activities, and methods in home, community, or group settings, incorporating lived experience to make guidance relatable and practical.
  • Serve as a consistent connection to the assigned case manager, ensuring collaboration, open communication, and alignment of services.
  • Engage in collaborative meetings with community service providers to identify strengths, address barriers, and find solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and agency goals, as needed and appropriate to the position.
