About The Position

The Parent Educator (PE) is responsible for delivering comprehensive home visiting services and support to Medicaid eligible expectant or parenting families from pregnancy until the child enters kindergarten. This role involves working closely with families to empower them and build on their strengths, while adhering to the standards and policies of the Louisiana Department of Health and the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associate's Degree in early childhood education, education, behavioral or social sciences, nursing or related field.
  • At least 2 years of previous supervised work experience with children and/or parents.
  • Highly organized and accountable; independent and self-motivated.
  • Ability to learn and incorporate the three roles of a parent educator: partnering, facilitating, and reflecting.
  • Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency with computer skills, including web browsing, word processing, and data entry.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preparation is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct personal visits using the PAT curriculum on a weekly or biweekly basis with each family.
  • Achieve and maintain current knowledge and skills in the PAT model to ensure fidelity in implementation.
  • Serve a minimum of 20 and no more than 25 active cases/clients at any given time.
  • Provide a minimum of 430 completed home visits per year.
  • Adhere to guidelines set forth by the PAT national model and comply with LDH/OPH/Bureau of Family Health standards.
  • Establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
  • Plan visits and organize materials according to program guidelines to meet family goals.
  • Ensure all annual and periodic screenings are completed on each child in the caseload.
  • Meet at least twice monthly with Team Supervisor for reflective supervision sessions.
  • Participate in community outreach activities to encourage referrals to the MIECHV program.
  • Maintain all family and program documentation in a complete and timely manner.
  • Organize and maintain program supplies and materials.
  • Maintain current CPR certification at all times.
  • Complete 20 required competency-based professional development hours annually.
  • Provide emergency care in the community as designated and participate in emergency preparedness activities.
