About The Position

The Parents As Teachers Parent Educator is responsible for providing the Parents As Teachers curriculum to families in Essex County within their homes. This role involves maintaining a long-term relationship with families, focusing on family-centered and strength-based interventions. The Parent Educator will assist parents in improving their skills to optimize the home environment and parenting practices that promote the optimal development of children. The position requires the educator to establish trusting relationships, assist families in goal setting, and facilitate referrals to community services as needed. The role also includes documentation responsibilities and outreach efforts to recruit families for the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or a related field.
  • Previous experience in community outreach and marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team.
  • Strong cultural competence skills.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based curricula.
  • Strong clerical, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Maturity and experience working with children (0-5 years) and their families for at least two years.
  • Knowledge of normal child growth/development and parent-child relationships.
  • Fluency in English; Spanish bilingual ability strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a regular and long-term relationship with 18 families at any given time.
  • Conduct home visits utilizing the PAT curriculum, focusing on the three main components of a visit.
  • Establish a trusting relationship and strong rapport with families.
  • Assist in strengthening the parent-child relationship.
  • Help parents improve their skills to optimize the home environment and parenting practices.
  • Increase the family support system and enhance problem-solving abilities.
  • Assist families in establishing goals and plans for accomplishment using the PAT Goal Plan.
  • Utilize the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) and ASQ-Social Emotional (ASQ-SE) for child development assessments.
  • Facilitate referrals to community services as indicated.
  • Document necessary information in PATsys and maintain accurate charts.
  • Meet deadlines for paperwork and ensure timely completion of screenings and assessments.
  • Perform community outreach to educate and recruit families for the PAT program.
  • Facilitate and assist in Group Connections events.
