About The Position

The Parent Educator for the DOC is responsible for developing and delivering parenting education programs to incarcerated individuals within the correctional facility. The goal is to enhance parenting skills, promote healthy family relationships, and support successful reintegration into the community. This position requires sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by justice-involved individuals and a commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive instruction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Human Services, Psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in parenting education, counseling, teaching, or group facilitation.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and restorative practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure facility and manage group dynamics among incarcerated populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting underserved populations.
  • Provide/maintain all required immunizations and/or vaccinations
  • Complete all required background checks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within correctional settings or with justice-involved populations, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate evidence-based parenting classes and workshops for incarcerated parents.
  • Develop lesson plans, materials, and activities tailored to diverse literacy levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide individual coaching or case management to participants as needed.
  • Collaborate with reentry teams, mental health staff, and caseworkers to align programming with broader rehabilitative efforts.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, progress reports, and documentation for each participant.
  • Coordinate with family services and visitation programs to promote healthy parent-child contact where appropriate.
  • Evaluate program outcomes and recommend improvements based on participant feedback and institutional goals.
  • Always uphold institutional safety and security protocols.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, and professional development related to corrections education and family systems.
  • Position is based in a correctional facility with frequent movement within secure environments.
