Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois is seeking a dependable and compassionate part-time Vehicle Operator to join our team in Sycamore, IL. This role is well-suited for individuals interested in working 20–29 hours per week, with availability to drive Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., as needed. As a Vehicle Operator, you’ll provide safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to our clients through a variety of services including paratransit, flex-route, and park & ride routes. Your role helps individuals access daily essentials like medical appointments, grocery stores, and community resources while promoting dignity and independence. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical, background check, and drug screening.
  • Experience in transportation, public service, or similar field.
  • Familiarity with community routes and passenger assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate agency vehicles under various environmental conditions.
  • Assist passengers boarding, riding, and exiting vehicles, including those with mobility devices.
  • Collect fares, complete daily trip logs, and follow all safety procedures.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Represent VAC with care, compassion, and integrity.
