About The Position

This is the first of seven levels in the Transportation series. Incumbents transport customers in a small passenger vehicle. Responsibilities may include driving a small vehicle on an assigned route; inspecting assigned vehicle for cleanliness and safety; performing routine, minor vehicle maintenance; selling tickets and collecting fares; and maintaining records of activities. PLEASE NOTE: MUST POSSESS A CURRENT REGULAR CLASS D DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH AN "F ENDORSEMENT" AT THE TIME OF HIRE. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A DOT PHYSICAL BEFORE STARTING THE POSITION. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN THROUGH NOVEMBER 6, 2025, OR UNTIL FILLED..

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • No experience required.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License with "F" Endorsement, issued by the State of Tennessee.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
  • Knowledge of safe driving principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of cleaning principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance inspection principles.
  • Knowledge of cash handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles.
  • Skill in customer service principles.
  • Skill in reading maps to following routes.
  • Skill in conducting bus inspections and recognizing defects.
  • Skill in completing forms, reports, and or logs.
  • Skill in performing cleaning duties.
  • Skill in handling cash.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Responsibilities

  • Drives a small passenger vehicle to transport riders to applicable locations, including special events.
  • Performs pre- and post-vehicle inspection activities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Performs routine cleaning activities.
  • Sells tickets and collects fares.
  • Responds to inquiries or requests for information from citizens and/or other interested parties regarding transportation, route, and/or scheduling policies, procedures, and/or other related information.
  • Relays traffic hazards to dispatchers.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records and reports.
  • Performs other related work as required.
