About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to support students and teachers in a junior high school setting. The ideal candidate will assist with classroom instruction, student supervision, and individualized support to ensure all students have the resources and guidance needed for success. This position follows Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) paraprofessional requirements and involves working with both general and special education students.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Certification: One of the following ISBE paraprofessional credentials is required: Illinois Paraprofessional License (earned through 60+ college credit hours, an Associate's degree, or a passing score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys test), or a valid Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute License.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with junior high students in an educational or childcare setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of classroom management techniques and student support strategies.
  • Ability to follow teacher guidance and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, adaptability, and excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with disabilities or behavioral needs.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and educational software.
  • Basic knowledge of academic interventions, social-emotional learning (SEL), and PBIS strategies.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in delivering instructional activities and classroom management.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students, reinforcing lesson materials and accommodations as needed.
  • Support students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English Language Learners (ELLs) by implementing modifications and accommodations.
  • Assist in monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teachers.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times.
  • Reinforce positive behavior strategies and help maintain a structured learning environment.
  • Assist with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of teachers and special education staff.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where all students feel respected and encouraged.
  • Help prepare classroom materials, bulletin boards, and learning resources.
  • Assist in tracking student attendance, assignments, and progress reports.
  • Support teachers in grading assignments and organizing student work.
  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff to enhance student learning.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff as needed.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions as required by the school and district.
  • Adhere to confidentiality policies regarding student information and records.
