About The Position

The paraprofessional shall serve as an aide resource person and liaison which allows for direct educational involvement with assigned students. The paraprofessional shall assist the teacher(s) in initiatory and participatory activities that occur in the training/teaching process along with other non-instructional activities.

Requirements

  • Meet one of the following three criteria to be considered highly qualified:
  • Completed at least 60 hours of credit toward a college diploma; or
  • Obtain an associate's (or higher) degree; or
  • Demonstrate, through a formal academic assessment test, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and math; (or, as appropriate, knowledge reading, writing, and math readiness).
  • High school diploma or equivalency with courses in child care, growth and development, reading, psychology desired.
  • Physical and emotional stamina and strength to work with a variety of students.
  • Experience with children in group settings.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to be confidential.
  • Ability to communicate at various levels with students, parents and staff.
  • Ability to carry out all assignments by teachers and by the building administrator.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with underachievers or handicapped persons desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers and students.
  • Carry out designated reinforcement (instructional) activities in all areas.
  • Participate in individual assessment.
  • Assist in planning daily schedules and activities.
  • Record student data and progress and assist in setting up student activities.
  • Prepare materials and equipment.
  • Follow through specific teaching strategies consistently.
  • Maintain an inventory teaching materials and equipment.
  • Work with audio-visual equipment.
  • Schedule student groups and/or individuals for reinforcement activities making every effort that the schedule takes into consideration the student's total academic and non-academic program.
  • Attend instructional in-services in the use of new programs, methods, and equipment.
  • Attend appropriate training activities for best practices in support ASD students including: CPI, Affirm, START, Wayne RESA related.
  • Participate in the lifting, transferring, and health care needs of students.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the director, supervisor, teacher and/or building administrator.
  • Help with data tracking/progress monitoring.
