About The Position

Contributes to the achievement of educational goals by providing additional educational support to students in the areas of math, reading, and other content areas. Title I paraprofessionals work under the direction of a certified teacher or the building principal.

Requirements

  • This position requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with course work in English, math and/or writing; or successful completion of the WorkKeys Equivalency test as required by the Federal government.
  • This position requires some experience working with elementary students in a classroom setting, and/or knowledge of literacy skills in reading, writing, and oral language; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
  • Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities
  • Monitors work and supervise curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff
  • Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community
  • Plans instruction techniques and methodologies, and prepares lesson materials based on assessments of individual students and their needs
  • Administers assessment tests and interprets results to identify student needs
  • Records and reports assessment data to teachers and school administrators; completes required forms, reports, and other paperwork
  • Assesses students to determine if they require Title One services and to provide metrics to measure the success of teaching efforts
  • Instructs and reinforces math learning strategies
  • Instructs and reinforces writing practices such as letter formation, sentence conventions, and usage of ‘word wall’ words
  • Tutors students in one-on-one or small group settings in all curriculum areas
  • Meets with teachers to discuss students’ goals and progress, and discuss additional interventions
  • Attends professional development sessions, training programs, and conferences to maintain current in the field
  • Position is dependent upon federal government funding for continuation after thew current academic year
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal
