About The Position
The Paraprofessional Specialist position at Gilbert Public Schools is designed to assist in the supervision and instruction of students with severe and moderate disabilities under the guidance of a certified teacher. This role is crucial in providing support to special needs students, ensuring they have the necessary assistance to participate in classroom activities and achieve their educational goals. The Paraprofessional Specialist will be responsible for observing and documenting student progress, implementing instructional plans, and addressing the special health care needs of students. This position is vital in creating a safe and positive learning environment for students with disabilities, allowing them to thrive academically and socially. In this role, the Paraprofessional Specialist will adapt classroom activities and materials to meet the diverse needs of special education students. They will assist with daily care tasks such as toileting, feeding, and dressing, ensuring that medically fragile and physically handicapped students receive appropriate care. The specialist will also collaborate with teachers and therapists to evaluate student progress and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives. By providing academic instruction and behavioral support, the Paraprofessional Specialist will help students develop essential skills and achieve their learning goals. The position requires maintaining instructional materials and student records, monitoring students during various activities, and participating in data collection for the Direct Service Claiming program. The Paraprofessional Specialist will also respond to emergency situations and assist other personnel as needed. This role is integral to the success of the special education program and requires a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.
