About The Position

The Paraprofessional at Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish plays a crucial role in supporting the educational experience of multi-lingual learners. This position involves assisting the MLL Teacher in small group instruction, organizing lessons, and recording student progress. The Paraprofessional is expected to create a positive classroom environment that fosters learning and engagement, utilizing rigorous academic lessons aligned with the academy's foundational pillars. The role also includes communication with parents and the community, maintaining high expectations for student behavior, and participating in professional development.

Requirements

• High School diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Classroom experience preferred.
• Paraprofessional certification or 60 credit hours.
• Clear FBI background check.
• Strong verbal and writing skills in English; Spanish fluency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the MLL Teacher in small group instruction for multi-lingual learners.
• Organize MLL lessons for small groups.
• Record student reading data daily.
• Assist students to reach academic success.
• Create a classroom environment that cultivates learning and engages student interests.
• Utilize academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments.
• Collect and report data on students' academic progress.
• Differentiate assistance based on individual needs, learning styles, and abilities.
• Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and the community.
• Track student attendance, behavioral issues, and classroom events.
• Participate in regular school-wide and individual professional development.
• Actively participate in critical school events, including staff meetings and parent-teacher conferences.
