Paraprofessional (ML Support)
About The Position
Woburn Public Schools Paraprofessional (ML Support) DEFINITION: The ML Paraprofessional shall be an employee member of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools. The ML Paraprofessional is responsible for assisting the ML Teacher and Sheltered Content Instruction (SCI) Classroom Teacher(s) with the supervision of multilingual students learning academic English. ML Paraprofessionals work with multilingual students individually or in small groups. The ML Paraprofessional provides English language instruction and support appropriate to the individual students’ level of English language proficiency. ML Paraprofessionals may work with students in and out of the content classroom.
Requirements
- Education beyond high school diploma required
- Experience with multilingual students learning English
- Experience working with multiple languages and cultures
- Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
- Demonstrates dependability, initiative, responsibility, intuitiveness, and is well-organized
- A desire to work with complex learners and the ability to work effectively with others
- Ability to physically provide assistance for multilingual students as assigned
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Bilingual or multilingual preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist and support professional staff in implementing English Language curriculum, programs, and WIDA Standards for multilingual students throughout their school day
- Assist in the implementation of curricula modifications and EL instructional strategies and techniques to provide ML academic assistance and support to individuals and small groups in and/or out of the content classroom
- Prepare and organize materials and instructional space to support multilingual students
- Reinforce reading, writing, listening, and speaking of academic English to help students improve their academic and social English language skills
- Assist students with understanding school expectations, specifically new students, as needed
- Support ML Teachers with ACCESS testing, ML paperwork, and record keeping as necessary
- Help form close home-school partnerships with school based multilingual families
- Provide classroom, lunch, bus, arrival/dismissal and recess supervision duties as assigned
- Assume other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Principal and/or the ML Teacher
- Direct problematic concerns to ML Coordinator in a timely manner
- All other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendents, Principal, and/or ML Coordinator
