About The Position

The Richardson School is now seeking an Instructional Aide to join their Brookfield team! As an Instructional Aide, you are responsible for caring for the students directly. For this role, relationship building is essential, as you are asked to assist the students' needs in the areas of education, therapeutic/behavioral support, and hygiene as needed. The Richardson School is an alternative placement option for local districts to access for their students with significant needs and behavioral concerns. Our students are typically diagnosed with a combination of developmental or neurological disabilities and emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders. The school calendar follows the typical 180 educational days with the opportunity to attend Extended School Year for students in need of this programming.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required; Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working with special needs students preferred.
  • Is eligible for Instructional Aide license through the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • A demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure while maintaining self-composure and self-control.
  • Effective working alone and as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with classroom teacher and/or immediate supervisor to discuss daily activities, academics, behavioral support, social and/or medical concerns related to the students.
  • Completes and submits paperwork, instructional data, and behavior data in a timely fashion as scheduled per students assigned.
  • Uses Agency-approved treatment techniques in supervising and educating students upon completing training.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with behavior management and behavior education techniques used at TRS.
  • Acts as a role model and sets an appropriate example for students, staff, and the community.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with the IEP by using resources to implement students' academic program under the direction and training of the classroom teacher and the TRS Education Leadership team.
  • Engages students in active learning as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Provides support for all staff working within the classroom setting and ensures that Education Department policies are withheld.
