About The Position

The Paraprofessional II - Special Education position at Fallbrook Union High School District involves assisting a Teacher, Specialist, or Therapist in providing academic, therapeutic, medical, and social instruction to students with moderate to severe disabilities. Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience working with school-age children, especially those with special needs.
  • Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices.
  • Competence in basic subjects taught in District schools, including math and language arts.
  • Ability to assist students in developing independence and self-help skills.
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with students, faculty, and parents.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency.
  • Valid California driver's license is desirable.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with handicapped youth or special education students.
  • Completed two years of college in a field related to the instructional area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic, therapeutic, medical, and social instructional assistance to individuals or small groups.
  • Assist students during classroom activities, lunch, physical education periods, and various other activities as directed.
  • Model and assist in tutoring students in appropriate social and academic behavior.
  • Assist in integrating special education students into the regular education population.
  • Assist students in developing food purchasing and preparation skills.
  • Prepare lunch to meet students' individual eating needs as needed.
  • Feed students unable to self-feed and wash and clean eating areas.
  • Assist students in developing independent travel skills.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene and self-help grooming skills.
  • Assist instructor in assessing student ability and progress.
  • Provide input into the development of individual lesson plans and goals.
  • Place students in standers, on wedges, and in wheelchairs.
  • Lift, move, and adjust students, especially non-ambulatory students.
  • Observe and control group activities and behavior of students.
  • Implement behavior support plans or Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Provide support to a teacher, specialist, or therapist by setting up work areas/displays.
  • Assist in maintaining health and safety of severely and physically handicapped students.
  • Provide instructions, information, and assistance to substitute teachers.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $23.34-$31.27 per hour.
  • Part-time employment with a work year of 9.5 months.
  • Non-exempt overtime status.
