About The Position

The Paraprofessional provides support for students in the HILIA program at Thomas Metcalf School. This position is subject to academic break layoff, typically mid-May through mid-August. The Heart of Illinois Low Incidence Association (HILIA) is seeking a paraprofessional to support teachers and students (with hearing and/or vision needs) that are part of the HILIA Program at Thomas Metcalf School.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Paraprofessional Educator’s License with Stipulations Endorsement as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Nice To Haves

  • Skill in signing and/or interpreting and ability to model appropriate use of language and speech when communicating.
  • Past experience working with students with hearing loss.
  • Knowledge of listening, language, and speech development.
  • Experience working with equipment to facilitate hearing.
  • Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule.
  • Ability to transition quickly between classrooms throughout the building in a timely manner.
