About The Position

The Paraprofessional I and II positions in Exceptional Student Education are designed to support students with special needs in a school environment. These roles require adherence to all county, state, and federal policies and procedures while providing academic, emotional, and physical support to students. The paraprofessionals will assist in preparing instructional materials, perform clerical tasks, and help with special activities such as toileting and feeding. They will also participate in lesson planning and maintain communication with parents and school officials. The positions require monitoring students during transitions and maintaining confidentiality regarding student information. Exceptional customer service and professionalism are expected at all times.

Requirements

  • Para I - minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE).
  • Para II - minimum of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution with a grade of 'C' or higher.
  • Must maintain a Georgia Paraprofessional License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and supervise students and provide academic, emotional, and physical support as necessary.
  • Assist with preparation of materials for instruction, including copying/duplicating materials and constructing display/bulletin boards.
  • Perform necessary clerical tasks as required.
  • Assist with special activities such as toileting, diapering, food preparation, feeding, and other delegated procedures.
  • Participate in lesson planning sessions and communicate with parents and school officials.
  • Assist with all transitions and student loading and unloading.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information related to students and staff.
  • Monitor the classroom during the teacher’s participation in IEP meetings or other activities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain professional practices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
