About The Position

The Content Mastery Paraprofessional supports high school students in a content mastery or resource setting. Under the supervision of a certified special education teacher, the paraprofessional assists students in accessing grade-level curriculum, reinforcing instructional concepts, implementing accommodations, and promoting independence, academic success, and self-advocacy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work effectively with adolescents with diverse learning needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, flexibility, and a supportive, student-centered approach
  • Ability to follow teacher direction while exercising good judgment and initiative
  • Basic technology skills (learning platforms, document sharing, assistive tools)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, college coursework, or paraprofessional certification preferred
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly at the secondary level, preferred
  • Knowledge of special education practices, accommodations, and instructional strategies is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic support to students with disabilities in a content mastery/resource classroom and, as needed, in general education settings
  • Reinforce teacher-led instruction in core academic areas (e.g., English, math, science, social studies)
  • Assist students with understanding assignments, completing classwork, preparing for assessments, and using accommodations and modifications outlined in IEPs
  • Support implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including instructional strategies and behavioral supports
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the special education teacher and general education teachers
  • Assist students with organization, time management, study skills, and use of assistive technology
  • Support students during testing situations in accordance with testing accommodations
  • Promote positive behavior, social skills, and self-advocacy
  • Maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA and district policies
  • Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, and counselors
  • Supervise students as needed during transitions, tutorials, or designated support periods
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or campus administration
