The Paraprofessional at the Beekman Center plays a crucial role in supporting teachers within classrooms designed for students with emotional impairments and autism. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at implementing individual education plans and positive behavioral support programs tailored to each student’s needs. The Paraprofessional will provide both group and individualized academic instruction, utilizing instructional objectives and lessons developed by the classroom teacher. This includes remediation and guided practice to ensure that students are receiving the support they need to succeed academically. In addition to academic support, the Paraprofessional will be responsible for implementing behavior intervention programs. This includes monitoring behavior data collection, preparing incident reports, and applying physical interventions when necessary, all under the guidance of classroom teachers. The role requires a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment and supporting the emotional and behavioral needs of students. Candidates for this position should be high school graduates or possess a GED, with a preference for those who have two years of successful experience as a paraprofessional in programs for youth with autism or emotional and behavioral disorders. Continuous learning in instructional, behavioral, and therapeutic interventions is essential for success in this role.
