About The Position

The Emergency Department is seeking a 50-100% Paramedic, who under direct supervision of an Emergency Department staff physician and/or Emergency Department Nurse Manager/designee will assist with basic emergency patient care services in the Emergency Department. Duties to include: Assists registered nurses and/or LIP’s in the delivery of patient care, with regard to patient condition and age. Performs patient care in compliance with the Iowa Department of Public Health Paramedic Scope of Practice related to: Maintaining Airway/Breathing Assessment i. Blood Chemistry Analysis Pharmacological Interventions Emergency Trauma Care i. Cervical Stabilization (manual) Medical/Cardiac Care Completes Point of Care (POC) testing. Provides psychological support to the patient and family based on assessed needs. Communicates any pertinent changes in patient condition or disposition and report unusual incidents. Performs related and routine clerical tasks pursuant to performing the aforementioned duties. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • Current paramedic certification by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services
  • Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association
  • Current course completion card in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year advanced life support field experience as an emergency response paramedic, or current ER experience with a history of advanced life support field experience; 2+ years of experience is highly desired
  • Prefer applicants with the following certifications: Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Critical care Paramedic (CCP) Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
  • Prefer applicants with an Associate degree in Paramedic.
