About The Position

Provides Basic Life Support to patients of the age groups: Infant (0-12 months), Toddlers (1-3 years), pre-schoolers (3-6- years), School Aged (6-12 years), Adolescents (12-21 years), Adults (21-65 years) and Gerians (65+) as dispatched throughout the Emergency Medical Services area.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current Georgia Paramedic License.
  • Must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support as well as Advanced Cardiac Life Support and must maintain certification at all times with no lapse.
  • Must maintain a valid Georgia Drivers License and maintain a driving record that meets the requirements set forth by the Hospital Driving Policy.
  • Must be aware and follow current Federal and Georgia laws with regards to emergency medical services.
  • Must meet Hospital requirements for criminal background check.
  • Minimum education of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a Paramedic.
  • Must be able to utilize initiative and independent action when required within the general framework of professional assignment.
  • Must be able to utilize good judgment in evaluating alternatives in unorthodox situations.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with physicians, patients and family members.
  • Must be able to work with accuracy under stress and emergency situations.
  • Discretion required in handling confidential information.
  • Must be able to consistently follow prescribed treatment protocol for patient conditions.
  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport of supplies and/or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength based upon the specific job evaluation levels.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 50-80# and carry 50-80# specific to the job evaluation level for their position.
  • If job class is classified under POPE D, must pass the cardiac recovery test.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations in all weather conditions .
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously.

  • Serves as a role model and resource person to other EMS personnel.

  • Performs safe and courteous driving.
  • Department has received no complaints, negative observations or positive comments.
  • Department receives positive comments from bystanders, patients, staff or department leadership.
  • Provides accurate and legible patient charge information.
  • No documented issues with charge sheets.
  • Documented positive comments related to charge sheets.
  • Performs patient assessment and correct airway management.
  • Properly documents and performs proper patient assessment and airway management.
  • Excels in patient assessment/airway management by observation and/or documentation.
  • Documents patient care according to professional (Department) standards.
  • Routinely documents well with few errors.
  • Few documentation errors.
  • Documents non-transports accurately and properly.
  • Review finds where employee failed to appropriately document non-transports per policy.
  • Employee documents non-transports per policy.
  • Follow treatment protocols for patient care.
  • Adherence to protocols is poor.

  • Excels in following EMS protocols with few exceptions.
