Job Summary: Location: Methodist Fremont Health Address: 450 E 23rd St. - Fremont, NE This is a casual position. Casual employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business. Work days/hours will often vary. Must pick up at least 2 shifts per month. Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Paramedicine required.
  • OR Graduate of an accredited Paramedic training program required.
  • Participate in mandatory in-services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by supervisor.
  • Current valid Paramedic license required.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Current National Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Capability to care for all ED patients.
  • Actively seek tasks, works well within a team, and be able to effectively communicate to assure that all patient care is done in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Able to start and remove peripheral IVs and IOs as directed.
  • Monitor and care for non-emergent, emergent, and critical patients in transport both in-hospital and ambulance transport situations, including OB emergencies, medical and trauma emergencies, and illness.
  • Ability to perform triage, both in non-emergent and emergent or disaster situations.
  • Manage ventilators (for ambulance transports only).

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2 years of Paramedic experience preferred.
  • EMS-Paramedic providing service in a hospital or by serving as a volunteer Emergency Medical Service preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced emergency care for all Emergency Department (ED) patients Acts as a lead responder in critical situations , initiating and coordinating advanced resuscitation and stabilization measures in accordance with established protocols. Demonstrates the ability to quickly assess patient condition and determine the most appropriate interventions based on patient age, medical history, and presenting symptoms. Coordinates care seamlessly with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure timely, effective, and safe patient outcomes.
  • Coordinates emergency response and interfacility transport Assists with ambulance transport of emergent and non-emergent patients to and from medical facilities, ensuring adherence to medical protocols and safety procedures. Operates and maintains emergency vehicles and associated life-support equipment in a state of readiness, performing pre- and post-shift inspections. Maintains continuous communication with dispatchers and healthcare facilities to coordinate arrival, transfer, and follow-up care.
  • Performs advanced patient care procedures Administers treatments and medications in accordance with approved protocols or direct physician orders. Utilizes advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, and other specialized interventions as required by patient condition. Accurately obtains and interprets vital signs, oxygen saturation, and pain assessments, and documents changes in patient condition promptly.
  • Ensures complete and accurate patient care documentation Completes all required patient care reports, incident reports, and transport records in accordance with regulatory, facility, and departmental guidelines. Ensures documentation is thorough, timely, and meets all legal and quality assurance requirements.
  • Serves as a mentor and training resource Provides guidance, support, and skills training to newly hired EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency personnel. Assists in evaluating the competency of team members and offers feedback for professional development. Participates in continuing education and serves as a subject matter resource on advanced emergency procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains a safe and effective operational environment Adheres to all safety regulations, infection control procedures, and emergency response standards. Ensures readiness of equipment, supplies, and medications for both routine and critical situations. Actively participates in drills, quality improvement initiatives, and operational readiness reviews.
