About The Position

Under the clinical direction of a radiologist and general supervision of the Diagnostic Imaging Center Manager, staff technologists, and Technical Director, must be capable of assessing situations in which patients are having reactions due to contrast injections, monitor patient until which time patient is stable to be released or has been transported to a proper facility. Must keep accurate records of any incidents requiring paramedic assessment and treatment, and assist with the recovery of patients from sedation given by the anesthesiologist. Must be able to perform and assist with preliminary interpretation of stress EKG"s, and patient monitoring. Performs a variety of procedures that require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to maintain patient assessment and care. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate's Degree (two-year college or technical school) from an accredited paramedic program.
  • Must possess current Paramedic and State of Florida certification, with current ACLS and CPR certifications.
  • Must have completed the required hours of continuing education per certification or annual period, to satisfy State of Florida and national requirements.
  • Six plus months of experience in EMT/Paramedic.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of MRI safety policy procedures.
  • Knowledge of paramedic operational principles, procedures and policies found onsite in each center, medical protocol, standing orders and lifesaving equipment at a level normally acquired by an accredited Paramedic program.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and follows directives and instructions from radiologists, diagnostic imaging center manager or designees, staff technologists, and technical director to properly perform the position function.
  • Requires thirty (30} minute maximum response time to designated site when paramedic is on call. Response is necessary to ensure that paramedic is on site prior to contrast administration. Supplies home phone, cellular phone and beepers numbers for personnel when on call.
  • Performs and verifies relevant and accurate patient history, medications, and allergies to examination that is ordered. Establishes and maintains rapport with patient, obtains chief complaint, vital signs, appropriate physical exam and primary assessment.
  • Explains proper preparation to patients and scanning procedures to patient and verifies appropriate patient history pertinent to examination ordered. Ensures that records are properly completed with appropriate information such as patient name, account number, date of exam and date of birth, address, referring physician name, etc.
  • Prepares IV solutions sets, dosage calculations per protocols and contrast agents for administration for radiologist/physician and assists radiologist/physician during administration. Prepares for radiologist/physician cardiac pharmaceutical and narcotic medications. Confirms and repeats all orders on medications prior to administration and reports patient response to therapy.
  • Assures formal introduction of self by name to all patients and addresses patient by name, in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
  • Assures treatment of all patients with warmth, dignity and consideration.
  • Assures that patient, family members, transporters, or anyone entering the magnet room have been properly screened and that clips, metal, or mechanical devices have been checked and cleared by using the "Pocket Guide to MR Procedures and Metallic Objects."
  • Assures that MR safety procedures found in the MR safety manual have been reviewed and are being followed at all times.
  • Schedules patient examinations according to physician's orders as directed.
  • Prepares and positions patients for MR and CT scanning procedures and ensures patient modesty, confidentiality and privacy.
  • Escorts patients through procedures to prevent entry into unauthorized or restricted areas of facility and to protect the patient.
  • Communicates effectively with radiologists/physician speaking clearly and concisely. Anticipates orders and is
  • able to accept constructive criticism and guidance.
  • Understand didactical and practical application of all BLS equipment in all offices. Gain experience and use of airway management including insertion of oral airways, suctioning, oxygen therapy, oral/nasal endotracheal intubation, manual defibrillator, cardiac monitors and interpretation of rhythms.
  • Understands all aspects of MRI safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist in reception areas and is required to have working knowledge of that area.
  • Maintains patient care standards at all times to ensure reliable and quality patient care via direct contact with staff and personal hands-on care.
  • Operates computer terminals, computer printers and phone systems.
  • Reports all unsafe, hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to supervisor immediately.
  • Attends and participate in-service educational classes, seminars, staff meetings and on-the-job training programs as required.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Interact professionally with other employees, patients and outside vendors.
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on assignments as required.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
  • Performs other related duties within the job classification or organizations necessary or as assigned by a radiologist, center manager or technical director.
