About The Position

Under the direction of the Emergency Department Nurse Manager will assist in providing timely, efficient and high-quality patient care to individuals presenting to the Emergency Department. This position requires skills and knowledge to identify emergent and urgent medical conditions, initiate standard life and limb saving care and carry out acute treatment. Duties and Responsibilities of this Level Provides patient care within scope of practice. Clear and concise communication to all healthcare providers. Support overall flow of patient care. Initiate emergency care such as opening airway, ventilation, oxygen, hemorrhage control, chest compression and immobilization. Communicates with patients and families in a kind, caring and professional manner. Provides general patient care as ordered by the Emergency Department provider. Understands the importance of symptoms and necessity of response to an emergency. Demonstrates understanding all types of emergency care, such as, cardiac, trauma, medical, surgical, pediatric emergencies and surgical procedures done within the scope of the ER. Promotes harmony between ER personnel, ER and staff physicians and other hospital departments. Helps coordinate nursing care in ER with services rendered by other hospital departments. Helps in training EMT and paramedic students within approved guidelines. Demonstrates emotional stability in extremely stressful situations Helps monitor ER records for completion. Ensures that infection control measures are carried out. Assess and provide pain management as ordered. Performs and assists with technical skills as defined within scope of practice. Adheres to policy and procedures including safety regulations and guidelines. Operates equipment safely and correctly. Participates in educational requirements and departmental meetings as required.

Requirements

  • Acquires CEU’s as per certification requirements
  • EMT-Paramedic Certification
  • ACLS, BLS and PALS certification
  • Audit TNCC and ENPC within 1 year of hire and every 4 years thereafter
  • Must be able to communicate with physicians, all levels of hospital personnel, patients, visitors and families.
  • Pass pharmacology test given by NARMC with a score of 80% or above.
  • Post-orientation, demonstrate knowledge as to patient care, medications, ability to recognize emergency situations then take appropriate actions.
