Summary: Provides high-quality, advanced-level pre-hospital emergency medical care as part of a dynamic and high-performance team. Responds to 911 calls, assesses, treats, and transports patients in accordance with state protocols and medical command directives. Ensures compassionate and efficient care for patients in emergency settings. Operates MICU vehicles safely and professionally, maintains equipment readiness, and ensures accurate documentation. Works in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with minimal supervision to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Previous BLS or ALS-level experience OR previous SCT-RN experience with a Virtua MICN endorsement.
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Graduate of a recognized Paramedic Training Program.
  • Current New Jersey paramedic certification issued by the NJ Department of Health or a Virtua MICN endorsement.
  • Current BLS CPR certification (American Heart Association or equivalent).
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support (PALS) or American Academy of Pediatrics PEPP certification.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification.
  • Valid driver’s license recognized by the State of New Jersey; driving record must meet insurance company standards.
  • Must complete annual clinical competencies, Fit Test, PPD screening, AMOC training, and any other required training by designated deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive patient assessments and provides advanced life support (ALS) interventions in accordance with New Jersey Statewide EMS Protocols and medical command directives.
  • Administers high-quality, evidence-based care in a dynamic and high-stress environment.
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents patient assessments, interventions, patient responses, and transfer of care details using the department’s electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) system. Ensures all documentation meets regulatory, quality assurance, and legal standards. Promptly responds to quality assurance and medical oversight requests.
  • Operates a MICU vehicle safely and professionally in accordance with New Jersey motor vehicle laws and department driving policies. Demonstrates defensive driving techniques, maintains situational awareness, and ensures the vehicle remains operational, fueled, and properly equipped. Reports any mechanical or operational issues promptly.
  • Conducts and documents vehicle and equipment check at the start of each shift. Ensures vehicles are properly stocked, equipment is in working order, and supplies are replenished as needed. Reports shortages and operational concerns to department management.
  • Maintains all Virtua-owned medical equipment, vehicles, and facilities in a safe, clean, and organized manner. Follows all infection control protocols and ensures proper decontamination of the equipment after each patient encounter.
  • Actively participates in the education and training of students, newly hired staff, and inter-agency personnel. Provides mentorship, monitors student and trainee performance, and offers constructive feedback to enhance clinical competency. Serves as a role model in professionalism, teamwork, safety, and patient care excellence.
