About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a collaborative health care organization focused on improving patient care and the lives of Arkansans through its unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs. The Telemedic position supports the ongoing delivery of teleconferenced stroke care as part of the UAMS Stroke Program. This role operates under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and within the scope of practice for an EMT or paramedic. The Telemedic performs duties as directed by Clinical Command Center management and medical personnel involved in the UAMS Stroke program, including assisting with identifying and tracking all calls to the Call Center and managing data on referrals and case-managed patients.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited EMT or paramedic program
  • 1 year of experience with at least 6 months of active ambulance service within that time
  • At least 1 year experience and at least 6 months of active service on an ambulance within the past year
  • EMT or Paramedic license

Responsibilities

  • Support ongoing delivery of teleconferenced stroke care as identified by the UAMS Stroke Program
  • Work under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and within the EMT or paramedic scope of practice
  • Perform tasks and duties as directed by Clinical Command Center management and medical personnel directing the UAMS Stroke program
  • Assist in identifying and tracking all calls to the Call Center and data on referrals and case managed patients
  • Respond to 911 calls for medical emergencies (accidents, heart attacks, trauma, etc.)
  • Assess patients’ conditions quickly and determine the severity of injuries or illness
  • Provide life-saving interventions such as CPR, defibrillation, and airway management
  • Administer medications and intravenous (IV) fluids
  • Assist in childbirth during emergencies
  • Safely transport patients to hospitals while continuing care
  • Monitor vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels) en route
  • Communicate patient status to hospital staff ahead of arrival
  • Record detailed patient care reports
  • Communicate clearly with doctors, nurses, and other first responders
  • Perform other duties as needed
