About The Position

The Paramedic is a member of the medical care team trained and certified to render supportive care to the patient, sustain life at the scene of accidental injury or sudden illness during transport to a hospital, and is qualified to begin corrective treatment as directed under State Protocol or instructed by Medical Command.

Requirements

  • Must possess current certification as required by state board where services will be provided: OH: Paramedic Certification through Ohio Emergency Medical Services WV: Paramedic Certification through the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS)
  • Nationally registered as Paramedic: WV: Paramedic through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (Unless WV state license is State License Only (SLO) OH: No National Registry required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS Certification within 60 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) OR Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) within 60 days of hire
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) OR Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within 60 days of hire
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Six (6) months patient care
  • Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
  • WV Paramedic C3 Endorsement

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS Instructor.
  • CPR Instructor.
  • One year college completion with emphasis on health care.
  • Associates Degree.
  • One (1) year patient care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for responding promptly and efficiently to calls.
  • Responsible for care of patient prior to and during transport.
  • Responsible for organized transfer of information to the hospital and accurate, complete and legible report and record keeping.
  • Performs duties of triage area and establishes appropriate priority of care as requested.
  • Responsible for assisting in fire control at sites when other supportive agencies are not available and a patient's life if endangered.
  • Responsible for working with deceased persons in all forms such as drowning victims, burned victims, decomposed victims, etc., as well as render medical care to bereaved families.
  • Responsible for cooperating with police agencies in various situations where a paramedic's life may be in danger and be aware of legal responsibilities at scene of the crime such as rape, child abuse, drug and alcohol related cases, etc.
  • Responsible for performing in inclement weather, providing minor vehicle maintenance and driving an emergency vehicle under extreme conditions such as heavy traffic, inclement weather and fog.
  • Responsible for attending court appearances when called by the State of West Virginia.
  • Upon completion of call/ exam, all paperwork is finished that deals with call/patient. Paperwork must be completed within 48 hours and entered into system.
