About The Position

Piedmont Eastside Medical Center's Emergency Department is seeking positive, self-motivated, engaged individuals excited for growth to join their team. The 38-bed Emergency Department sees an average of 160 patients daily with various acuities and is a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving facility capable of administering thrombolytics. The department features two helicopter pads and 5 PODs, including a Behavioral Health Pod, where patients are assigned based on acuity. The team consists of Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians, and Unit Secretaries, all working in close collaboration with ED Providers to deliver exceptional care. All staff must have BLS, while RNs require ACLS and PALS. NIH certification is highly preferred and must be obtained within an allotted timeframe. The Paramedic, under the supervision of a Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician, is responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Paramedic participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of health care services and tasks, and also acts as a patient advocate, teacher, performance improvement participant, and oversees unlicensed personnel.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • BLS Certification
  • ALS/ACLS and PALS (Paramedics new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
  • Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience as a Paramedic
  • Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia, National Registry
  • NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Must have a working knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, intravenous, and intravenous push medications-effect, side effects, drug to drug interaction and anaphylaxis protocol. Working knowledge of venous blood sampling, and cardiac monitor knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of the body’s systems to include neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, primary and secondary trauma assessment.
  • Responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age appropriate and culturally aware needs. Able to assess a patient's needs and respond to direction by the Professional Registered Nurse and Physician.
  • Perform EKG'S
  • Perform Foley catheters
  • Start IV'S, IO'S & draw blood.
  • Transport patients to other departments.
  • May be required to monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms and changes immediately to Charge Nurse and Nurse
