About The Position

As a member of the Baptist Hospital Transport Team, the Paramedic participates in evaluating patient status/needs and determining priority of transport requests. The Paramedic performs intra-system and inter-facility transport with Emergency Medical Technician or Registered Nurses/Respiratory Therapists support based on priority triage. The position assesses patients and implements plan of care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and under the direction of the transport team physician. The Paramedic performs daily maintenance of the ambulance including all ALS/BLS equipment stored in ambulance, maintaining logs, and restocking supplies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Paramedic Required
  • 1-3 years Health care related experience Required
  • Paramedic Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS_ARC) American Heart Association within 90 Days Required
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Minimum 16 hour course Upon Hire Required
  • Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) within 90 Days Required

Responsibilities

  • Monitors patients during transport, under the direction of the medical director and protocols.
  • Documents patient assessments, provides interventions with accurate administration and calculation of medications and the responses, as per department protocols and BHC policy.
  • Utilizes specific knowledge in care of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Identifies, intervenes, and stabilizes acute patient conditions presented during transportation.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient conditions and treatments, as appropriate.
  • Works as a team member, able to effectively communicate with other health care members.
  • Provides a complete verbal and written document for hand off of care and patient safety.
  • Educates patients and family members about patient illnesses and clinical interventions.
  • Inspects and maintains equipment to ensure the safety of transport team members, patients, and the public.
  • Monitors and anticipates needs for additional equipment and appropriately secures tools to meet patient care demands during transport.
  • Operates emergency vehicles safely in a variety of weather and emergent conditions in accordance to established safety standards.
  • Effectively communicates delays and updates to dispatch.
  • Immediately reports any damage or vehicle issues to the supervisor.
  • Maintains equipment between patient transports.
  • Maintains the unit in a constant state of readiness.
