Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of pre-hospital patients and patients requiring inter-facility transportation. Care is delivered in accordance with MRHC policies, EMS Department policies, procedures, and protocols, and in accordance with the Mississippi Department of Emergency Medical Services laws, rules, and regulations. Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Maintains competency in critical skills for age-specific groups; neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Maintains current knowledge and trends concerning pre-hospital emergency medical care. Emergency Medical Services is considered to be a high-risk job which requires a clear mind, a strong will, a high degree of nerve and an acceptance of several possible risk factors. There may be, from time to time, exposure to corrosive chemicals, poisonous or hazardous chemicals, infectious agents or disease, handling of unpleasant or hazardous materials, blood or other body fluids or secretions. There is also a considerable risk of possible bodily injury due to ambulance accidents, accidents which might occur working around machinery or other obstacles or hazards at the scene or from the patient's family or bystander assaults.
