About The Position

Administers advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital and interfacility setting, as authorized and directed by the Medical Director, and Base Station Physician or Mobile Intensive Care Nurse, by performing the following duties, within the prescribed scope of practice and all applicable regulatory guidelines for prehospital care. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include all of the essential duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description for an EMT-Ambulance Driver plus the following. Other duties may be assigned. Receives and gives an accurate and concise report regarding the patient's condition, necessary interventions, and medical outcome of treatments administered. Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance. Restores and stabilizes heart rhythm and ventilation on the pulseless and/or non-breathing patient. Provides cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and recording. Takes and records patient's vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate. Initiates intravenous access to administer medications or fluids. Performs advanced airway management, including endotracheal intubation, to establish an airway and ventilate patients.. Administers oral, sublingual, parenteral, and inhaled medications. Assists in extricating trapped victims and administers initial treatment at emergency scenes. Drives mobile intensive care unit. Transports sick and injured persons to acute receiving and extended care facilities. Observes, records, and reports to the Base Station; patient's condition and reaction to drugs, interventions, treatments, and significant incidents. Communicates with the Base Station and other medical personnel via radio-telephone. Participates in Quality Improvement activities of the EMS Agency, Base Station hospital and the Company including chart audits, peer review and data collection activities, tape reviews and focused studies. Participates in continuing education activities as a student, instructor and proctor. Serves as a company representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive involvement in public business and community activities.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or High school diploma or general education degree GED) and six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals and medical documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the medical community.
  • Ability to write reports that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to co-workers, licensed healthcare professionals, communications center personnel, supervisors, managers and administrators.
  • Ability to listen actively and comprehend the meaning of communications with co-workers, licensed healthcare professionals, communications center personnel, supervisors, managers and administrators.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute drug dosages based on patient weight in kilograms, IV infusion rates using various types of tubing and interpret various charts and graphs.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze both subjective and objective data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of physiological and psychological signs and symptoms and process subtle and well as specific variables.
  • Knowledge of lmageTrend EMS Field Bridge Field-ePCR Data Collection Database software; Internet software; eCore - ePro Scheduler EMS Scheduling-Timekeeping Software and Word Processing software.
  • Valid unrestricted California Driver's License, California Ambulance Driver's License, State of California Paramedic License, Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider's Certificate, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider's Certificate, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider's Certificate, Medical Examiner's Certificate (DL-51), OCEMS IFT-ALS Paramedic Accreditation (or OCEMS 9-1-1 Paramedic Accreditation), ICS Training (levels 100, 200, and 700); and acceptable California DMV Printout.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months of verifiable recent and continuing experience as a practicing California licensed paramedic is preferred for this position.
  • Six (6) or more months of experience working as a paramedic delivering care in a 9-1-1 service environment is preferred.
