As a Paramedic at MercyOne, you will provide professional care for acutely ill and injured patients incorporating the education and skills learned as a certified paramedic for all age groups in ground ambulance pre-hospital and hospital environment. Is guided by MercyOne Ambulance protocols or direct medical control.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Iowa required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within three (3) months of hire (American Heart Association).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or obtain within three (3) months of hire (American Heart Association).
  • Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training within three (3) months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within three (3) months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years old, and eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations training required within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients with a variety of medical conditions or injuries.
  • Prepare patient care reports within 24 hours of completing the ambulance trip.
  • Triage, prioritize, and anticipate patients' needs; develop a plan of care.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and adjust the plan of care as needed.
  • Document findings and interventions.
  • Implement interventions according to protocols and document patient responses to treatment.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies, checking medical equipment daily and restocking and cleaning the rig after each transport.
  • Operate required vehicles safely to perform job duties.
  • Provide stand-by EMS services at events.
  • Assist with station duties as needed.
