Position Details: Work Shift: Varied Shift (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 0 Department: Linden Avenue Overview of Position: The purpose of this position is to respond to emergency situations and provide skilled emergency and non-emergency services in a variety of areas including emergency medical and rescue operations, advanced medical assistance, directing ambulance and first responders in patient care services, mentoring, training, quality improvement, public education, and recruitment. The incumbent would provide supervision and care of patients in the pre-hospital environment including the utilization of monitor/defibrillators, numerous medications, endotracheal intubation, IV therapy, and other associated tasks; perform critical basic and advanced life support procedures according to medical protocol; and perform independently in situations involving both basic and advanced life support activities.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of an accredited paramedic program and State of Ohio certification.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible for driving privileges based on current Genesis policies and procedures.
  • Maintains CME responsibilities per state guidelines for certification to include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ASLS certifications.
  • Attend an annual advanced airway refresher and skills check off.
  • Attends a minimum of six educational programs per year pertinent to his/her practice.
  • Must read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must read and understand English.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess situation needs and problem solve.
  • Two (2) years-experience as Paramedic
  • Must follow State approved protocols and procedures within the scope of the Critical Care License, including maintaining required/recommended certifications.
  • Participates in continuing education classes, seminars, workshops as directed by the designated Medical Director.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)

Responsibilities

  • Direct subordinates, including first responders, EMT’ and advanced EMT technicians in the provision of medical care; work seamlessly with both career and volunteer personnel; and exercise leadership and motivate subordinates to provide quality service.
  • Administer basic and advanced life support to patients at the scene, in-route to the hospital and in the pre-hospital environment in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, protocols, regulations, and standards.
  • Safely operate emergency ambulances and other light duty emergency medical response vehicles responding to emergency and non-emergency transports as directed by the Communications Center.
  • Attend classes and perform those activities required to familiarize and maintain currency with the proper practices and procedures of emergency medical services to affect an efficient delivery of services.
  • Assist in the rescue and extrication of victims of accidents, sudden illness or entrapment using proper rescue and medical techniques.
  • Responsible to communicate with additional medical personnel and treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and/or to arrange reception of patients to the appropriate center.
  • Report to work at the scheduled time in the appropriate uniform, ready for work.
  • Respond to emergency calls in a professional and prompt manner; providing high quality patient care.
  • Complete a full check sheet for assigned vehicle(s), assuring the ambulance and first response vehicles are stocked fueled and ready to respond to the next call.
  • Report any day to day incidents, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages in writing to the duty supervisor prior to the end of your shift
  • Assure controlled substances and medications are always secure.
  • Adhere to and follow all policies and procedures concerning safety and contamination by bloodborne pathogens.
  • Be familiar with the county treatment protocols and company policies and SOG’s.
  • Attend meetings mandated by the Director of Operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, staff, and Genesis Community Ambulance matters, following all HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform chores for your shift, cleaning, doing dishes, cleaning bathrooms, mopping, emptying trash, and other related assigned maintenance duties in the station.
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner following the three P’s of Genesis Community Ambulance, Pride, Proficiency, and professionalism.
  • Operates specifically equipped emergency vehicles at a safe and controlled speed, in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations and standards.
  • Properly document all reports for service in accordance with State and Local procedures, rules, and regulations. Complete and upload all PCR’s prior to or at the end of the shift.
  • Check, restock, inventory, and clean any equipment operated by the crew or on the ambulance.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management not necessarily relating to emergency medicine and patient care duties.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement activities as assigned.
  • Undertakes and maintains projects as assigned (to include research).
  • Assume command of scenes involving multiple patients or complex incidents until relieved by a supervisor or manager and perform assigned leadership roles within the incident management system.
  • Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned.
  • Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences.
  • Participates in continuing and outreach education programs as requested.
