  • Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
  • Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
  • Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
  • Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
  • Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
  • Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
  • Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
  • Transport patients and specimens.
  • Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
  • Perform fluid/drug administration.
  • Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic training program.
  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department.
  • Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).
  • One year of experience as an EMT-P.
  • Experience in a hospital setting or city ambulance.
