Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited EMS-Paramedic Training Program.
  • Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Certification.
  • One year of experience as an EMT-P.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of an RN.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Perform EKGs, CPR and phlebotomy and oral, nasal and/or ET suctioning.
  • Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
  • Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
  • Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
  • Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
  • Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
  • Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
  • Transport patients and specimens.
  • Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning/maintaining supplies and equipment.
  • Perform fluid/drug administration.
