About The Position

The Inpatient Paramedic provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. This role involves providing basic patient care, performing advanced tasks, and ensuring high-quality service to patients and their families.

Requirements

  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • ACLS - AHA (Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association) (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • PALS - AHA (Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association) (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • Current paramedic-level certification (required)
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associates degree level (required)
  • 2 Years of Paramedic experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic patient care and tasks including care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG's, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN or Physician.
  • Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, which includes additional patient care tasks such as colostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, initiates CPR, foley catheter placement, and alerts RN for further assessments.
  • Completes patient rounding as assigned.
  • Assists with giving patient instructions and discharge, administers medication in a safe manner consistent with the State Scope of Practice and Organization Policies and Procedures.
  • Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
  • Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
  • Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
  • Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs.
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
  • Collects data, within scope.
  • Completes patient screenings as applicable.
  • Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and resolve conflict under considerable stress.
  • Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.
