About The Position

The Paramedic in the Emergency Department at Ascension St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, is responsible for providing basic and advanced life support treatment, care, and evaluation of patients. This position requires the identification, intervention, and stabilization of ill or injured patients under the direction and in collaboration with a physician and/or Registered Nurse. The Paramedic will initiate and implement interventions based on transport team protocols, monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions and treatments as appropriate. Additionally, the role involves providing population-specific education to patients and their families about illnesses and therapeutic interventions, as well as inspecting, maintaining, and caring for equipment to ensure the safety of the transport team, patients, and the public.

Requirements

  • Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Emergency Medical Tech credentialed from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Paramedic credentialed from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Drivers License credentialed from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic and advanced life support treatment, care and evaluation of patients.
  • Identify, intervene, and stabilize the ill or injured patient under the direction and in collaboration with a physician and/or Registered Nurse.
  • Initiate and implement interventions based on transport team protocols.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patient condition and treatment, as appropriate.
  • Provide population specific education to the patient and family about the patient's illness and therapeutic interventions.
  • Inspect, maintain and care for equipment to ensure safety of the transport team, patients and public.
