About The Position

The Emergency Department Paramedic at Douglas Hospital is a vital member of the interdisciplinary team responsible for delivering high-quality, safe patient care in the emergency department. This role involves supporting treatment under the direction of physicians and registered nurses, assisting with various patient care tasks, and ensuring a positive patient experience. The paramedic is expected to adhere to established protocols and collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals to promote patient health and well-being.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited paramedic training program.
  • Georgia paramedic license and national registry certification for paramedics.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a paramedic in the field or in a hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting as a paramedic.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist medical and nursing staff with the care and treatment of emergency patients.
  • Perform intake processes by greeting and interviewing patients and inputting pertinent medical information into the computer system.
  • Assist in various diagnostic testing and procedures such as performing EKGs, placing patients on cardiac monitors, venipuncture, and wound care.
  • Perform functions delegated by the RN, including initiating IVs, administering medications, and performing glucose monitoring.
  • Transport and monitor critical patients, including those being moved to the ICU.
  • Assist with patient flow in the emergency department.
  • Perform command center technician duties and monitor tech duties.
  • Receive EMS patients into the ED and assist the RN in initial triage and assessment.
  • Educate patients and families as needed.
  • Respond to Trauma Alerts, Code Fast, and STEMI Alerts.
