About The Position

The Shift Captain provides daily management and supervisory oversight to the care provided by Paramedics and EMTs on the assigned shift within their respected divisions. Coordinates with the FTO’s and other leadership positions to ensure all have proper training supervising EMS’s and Paramedics, responding to BLS and ALS calls in a timely manner, and assisting the Director in the daily operations of the shift with a high level of metric reliability. Must be able to effectively prioritize and delegate, assists in the selection, training and evaluation of subordinates and addresses performance issues with the Director Coordinates with Fleet Services and VST to ensure the accurate asset allocation, and inventory availability. Ensures readiness for all state inspections for the region. Assumes field command in the event of MCI or Disaster. Completes and submits to the director all required reports as they relate to departmental metrics and budgetary expenditures with high level of accuracy, monitors and controls expenditures, assumes responsibility for decision making in absence of the Director of Operations also may participate in life safety programs, community awareness programs, and other programs as assigned. Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Licensed Paramedic
  • Must complete annual drivers training course and CEU requirements.
  • Instructor in ACLS, and BLS (can be completed within 6 months of promotion)
  • Completed FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • 3 years EMS experience; 1 year supervisory

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge of all and EMS policies, procedures and protocols
  • Conducts training and evaluates the performance of assigned members
  • Supervises, directs, assistance to subordinate members in the general execution of EMS duties and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Reviews all divisional accident, injury and patient incidents, expediting the completion of investigative packets to the Director and Risk Management.
  • Ensures monthly operational budgetary compliance and provides input for improvement of efficiencies and quality assurance.
  • Attends weekly staffing meetings and coordinates with HR for position control management.
  • Participates with HR as the senior operations member for all field staff interviews, performance reviews and correction action.
  • Assist in providing QA with personnel compliance review and monitoring.
  • Serves as the lead liaison with all area hospital receiving facilities for maintenance of weekly target turn times.
  • Monitors staff performance to ensure adequate supervision, consistent performance feedback, timely performance appraisals, appropriate corrective action, equitable promotion opportunity and other related communication.
  • Provides open communications to all supervisors and staff enhancing engagement throughout the division.
  • Coordinates as directed by the Director of Operations the Pharmacy replenishment and reconciliation per established procedures for the Fulton and Central divisions
  • Investigates customer services inquiries and ensures timely investigation and transfer of information to the Director of Operations
  • Ensures the readiness of medical apparatus and equipment, and general station upkeep.
  • Responsible for the direction and supervision at medical incident scenes, and other incident scenes involving rescue.
  • Coordinate EMS evaluations of paramedic and EMT’s to include objective points for improvement.
  • Coordinate all ALS and BLS continuing education programs including but not limited to BLS, ACLS, PALS and other related EMS education; and insure proper records are completed and maintained on their assigned shift.
  • Supervise and evaluate probationary employees on their assigned shift to insure adequate medical skills and knowledge of current AmeriPro EMS policy and procedures have been obtained, documenting the progress in accordance with Department Operating Guidelines.
  • Ensure open lines of communications between the Department’s Command staff Team; attend necessary meetings, classes and conferences to improve the Quality Service Delivery of the Emergency Medical Service.
  • Coordinates with Staffing, the daily crew requirement for the target number of unit hours to meet demand requirements and metric compliance
  • Knowledge of modern supervisory and leadership techniques.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other members, professional groups, public safety agencies and the general public.
  • Cooperates with ancillary departments and agencies to assure continuity of care and completion on any investigation of illness and/or accident
  • Demonstrates expertise in the use and application of all EMS related equipment.
  • Operates emergency vehicles in a safe manner in accordance with applicable local, state and federal laws.
