About The Position

This position provides emergency care at the scene of an accident or other emergency. Responsibilities involve preparation for response, response, delivery of care, transportation, documentation, and post response duties. The role also includes attending to patients being transported by ambulance on non-emergency calls, ensuring their safety en route. Key duties include performing initial assessments of the scene and patient, obtaining brief targeted histories, completing physical exams, recognizing and evaluating patients requiring immediate attention, and initiating emergency life-saving treatment when necessary. This encompasses administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen, resuscitation with an ambu bag, intubating, inserting IVs, and administering medication according to physician order or ACLS protocol. Paramedics may also participate in life safety programs, community awareness programs, and other assigned duties. Requirements

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program
  • Minimum 1 year as an Emergency Medical Technician
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor (required upon hire)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor (required upon hire)
  • PALS - Pediatric Adv Life Support or ARC-PALS - Amer Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-I - PALS - Instructor (required upon hire)

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency care at the scene of an accident or other emergency.
  • Prepare for response, respond, deliver care, transport, document, and perform post response duties.
  • Attend to patients being transported by ambulance on non-emergency calls and ensure the patient's safety in route.
  • Perform an initial assessment of the scene and patient including obtaining a brief targeted history and completing a physical exam.
  • Recognize and evaluate patients who require immediate attention and when necessary initiate emergency life saving treatment.
  • Deliver and/or supervise the delivery of emergency patient care such as administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and resuscitation with an ambu bag.
  • Intubate when necessary.
  • Insert IVs and administer medication according to physician order or ACLS protocol.
  • Participate in life safety programs, community awareness programs, and other programs as assigned.
  • Communicate verbally in what may be perceived as crisis situations with team members, patients, and family members to produce quality interaction.
  • Work with EMT or Paramedic partner to form solutions to unique problems respecting the input of their team member and coming to a common goal.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures and act in a safe manner at all times in less than safe conditions including accident scenes or businesses and homes.
  • Act within the appropriate guidelines and scope of practice for the Paramedic role.
  • Not operate outside of the scope without on-line medical direction from the ED physician.
  • Maintain accurate supply levels and not use equipment for purposes other than those for which they are intended.
  • Maintain vehicles in good working order and use the vehicle with due regard.
  • Perform daily Preventative maintenance checks.
  • Analyze problems under pressure to identify underlying issues and determine a course of action for care of patient.
  • Comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
